Use Collectors
About Collectors
To use Recovery for Active Directory, you must first create a collector to backup your AD objects. You can then restore the object information to the saved values in the backup file.
When creating a collector you must decide the Active Directory objects that you want to gather information on. Objects supported by Recovery for AD are:
- Active Directory objects in the current domain or forest
- Active Directory objects in another forest
- GPOs
- NETLOGON data
- Configuration naming context data (including sites, subnets, and custom applications data)
- Schema naming context data
Note: When NETLOGON data is collected, the data is a backup only. You must search through the share folder to find the relevant data.
To collect GPO data, the following must be set before running the first collection for the domain. If not, GPO data will not be collected. For more information, please see Save GPO Data Retrieved During a Collection.
You can create as many collectors as you like. You can then organize gathered information based on the collectors that you are creating.
The type of data that you are collecting will determine the most suitable scheduling requirements. We suggest scheduling collections during non-peak hours for your network. Changes that occurred are detected when the collector runs.
